Subject: Aug 22- Aug 26: TMINUS a little over 70 hours
Greetings all. This e-mail will be short because I have to leave in ten minutes. Here's the update for this past week or so. Onc again, my journal covers every thing in more depth.
FRIDAY Aug 22: Slept in. Didn't go in until 11. Very nice to have a quiet weekday morning. Toured space camp in the afternoon. If any of you have kids and lots of money, I highly recomend checking it out. That night, half the group got drunk while a few of us sat out on the porch with a camp fire in the BBQ pit (stand) with wood provided for the fireplace. We got yelled at for being too loud by the neighbors. We were barely talking.
SATURDAY Aug 23: Another relaxer. Spent most of the day sleeping, packing and walking. Went to Hoover tower and then on a hike to the hills for a photo op. Had a nice group night together at the French House that night.
SUNDAY Aug 24: More of the same - relaxing. I also got one or two productive things done like a lot of packing of papers (I'm bringing home a lot).
MONDAY Aug 25: Another PI day. Bob still wanted me to get his cdrom working in Linux - that's something I have been trying to do for three weeks now. He was persistent so I looked into it some more and got real frustrated.
That night, we played softball with some other people from Ames. We did just as bad as we thought we would ,losing 22-13 with a valiant effort.
TUESDAY Aug26: Yet another PI day. This time productive. I was able to get Bob's webpage started (pictures resized in photoshop). More impressive yet, on a freak act of nature and a kind act of God, I was able to get the cdrom to work in Linux with little effort. I just read a message on the screen as Linux booted up to determine I was using the wrong device driver in a command I was using to get the cdrom to work. I used the right driver and it worked nicely.
That evening, we went to Doug's for a last night there. He had a wonderful meal for us as well as cake. We gave him a collage.of photos from the summer. We also watched some slides from the summer and one of the RAs (rsch associate) video from her KC 135 (Vommit Commet) flight this spring.
After that, a few of us took a dip in the hot tub. The Don, with sweat pants on and a Griz championshipo shirt on was pulled in to the tub by two of the ladies. This marks the second fully clothed dip this summer. I am not a freak!!!!!
That's about does it for this week. Today is the final PI day - guareanteed to be busy. Tonight we head to San Fran for a nice dinner and dancing. Tomorrow is reservd for final presentation preparation. We give final presentations on Friday and then we are out of here.
Still nothing on the job situation. Begining to get a little nervous, but I'm sure I'll find some thing when I get back. TMINUS 70 hours 15 minutes until another adventure begins. one more update to come on friday night. Talk to ya then. Later.
