Subject: July 28: Computers Computers Computers
Well, maybe In N Outs aren't all that great. I said pretty good as in not good, not great. Thanks for giving me a different perspective Christian.
Now on to today. Today was another PI day. I hurried around all day to get absolutely nothing done. It started by taking the late van in again. 8:15 seemed earlier than ever. Sleep is running at an all time low.
I started off by looking into getting netscape and another package that Bob's laptop still did not have. At the end of the day, it still did not have them. I also checked into installing the proper print driver and by the end of the day, I was still unable to print. I basically worked on close outs. On a positive side, I was able to successfully send files from my laptop to a central computer to Bob's computer via e-mail. These were the files that he sent me via e-mail last week to send through Tex and LaTex. He printed these converted files out and they looked pretty good.
It was not a productive day physically, but it was as far as direction goes. I'm a little further on down the road. As for Orion and the project, it sounds as if he has no work for me to do because he sent his high school student that was working on the Orion data to me for work. I had no work to give him.
I also had a request from Doug to get his Apple Powerbook (Mac version of a laptop) to access the system via remote dial in. Since he had the power cord at home and the battery was low, I will put that off til tomorrow. He and the rest of the group basically put me in charge of getting th group e-mail access when we are on the Dryden trip this week. I think I'll try to get the Mac working as well as let them use my PI's computer, which I finally figured out how to use netscape under Win95 on (haven't actually tested it but I know it will work).
Lynn Harper, another academy staffer and big shot at Ames (I don't know her title off hand), also asked me to do a webpage for her. She said she needs me to help her set it up by Wednesday. I haven't started on it and we leave again on Wednesday so I guess that leaves tomorrow.
I'm also trying to really get going on the Academy webpage. I'll try to have something up on my page by tomorrow night and most likely tonight. I highly suggest checking my page out some time soon, especially the Academy section. I should be getting the weekly summaries up by tomorrow night. Don't take my word on what happened at the academy. Take their word. It will let you know the "rest of the story". Once again my website, which is yet unlisted (sorry), is http://www.mcn.net/~dolinger. I will be getting some of the summaries up tonight or early tomorrow morning.
Computers are my life right now. That's all I've done all day and I'm some how enjoying it. That's what sleep deprivation does to you!!! Well, we leave for Dryden and Disneyland on Wednesday so I'll hopefully e-mail you once more tomorrow night. Until then, hope all's going great and "be at your best when your best is needed" - Mick O'Lean, Grizzly Sports Network Announcer. Go Griz!!!!!!!

p.s. Also got some mail (physical, postal service) from Mark Kaplan, my sixth grade teacher. He sent me an innovative piece of mail - a puzzlegram. It was a message on a puzzle. I'll let the family know more later. See yas!!!!
