Subject: Tuesday: What follows a really good day?
How about a really, really bad day. I could not get the computer to do anything I wanted to today. Anything and everything went wrong on every single computer I touched. I guess this was pay back for yesterday going so well. Just to give you a fw examples:
I found out that one big component to yesterday's installation - the X windows installation, was messed up and di not go well. I spent most of the day trying to fix that. On the bright side, I did get it to work, but it was nothing like I wanted.
I figured out how to get pine on my other nasa account (vog.asan.cra.sungyc|regnilo#vog.asan.cra.sungyc|regnilo). I also learned e-mail on it. This was only after my e-mail locked up on it. To get pine, I had to update my .cshrc file. The problem was that I didn't have one. I'm serious on that!!!!!
I had trouble checking my e-mail upstairs in the academy room tonight.
I tried configuring Eudora to be more personal and not have one community e-mail box. I ended up leaving that computer (at Stanford) without the Eudora Light program that I put on there.
Finally, I just tried printing from the other Stanford computer, this one. The printer is jammed.
While all of this has nothing to do with me, it has every thing to do with Murphy's Law. I'm frustrated right now. Nothing seems to go right. I look to previous days, especially yesterday, and see that things can go right. I think it's a case of me expecting too much out of myself. Any way, I'm frustrated, but I'm not taking this too seriously. I just had one of those days. Tomorrow is another day. It will probably be better. I am also quick to claim that this wasn't a completely bad day. It was a learning experience, one which I remained calm through. I learned a lot today by making mistakes. Besides, it's NASA. A bad day at NASA is much better than a good day at many other places.
As you can guess, today was another PI day. Tonight, we had another group meeting about the group project and the web page. I'm going to be involvd heavily in both of those. I'll be the leader in the efforts to establish a web page. I'll let you know when we get some thing worth while up. We are currently scanning pictures and should get some thing up soon, provided the NASA bureacracy doesn't slow us down that much.
I guess that's all I know right now. Mosquitoes are beginning to get bad in the evening here. I better get off before this e-mail goes bad. Tomorrow will be better.
